Deep ListeningĀ® is a practice developed by Pauline Oliveros that blends meditation, improvisation, and mindfulness to cultivate awareness of sound, self, and environment. It emphasizes listening with full presence, much like Thich Nhat Hanh's teachings on compassionate listening and mindfulness (which is also called "Deep Listening", generally when you see the Ā® that's the lineage of Oliveros).
This practice helps open the heart, quiet the mind, and deepen the connection to the world around you. Michael Reiley, a certified Deep ListeningĀ® facilitator, guides participants through this transformative experience in workshops around the world with his project Listening Bodies, through weekly Sound Sangha classes, and at the Center for Deep ListeningĀ® at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY.
